The most interesting area of the show: the parking spot. Here stands the truth of the Japanese biker’s soul. And it is authentic. Very important: completely original Harleys. If it´s possible with matching numbers of all parts.

Aside the perfectly polished bikes of the show you can be seen gorgeous patina to rusty holes. Opposite to Europe these bike are toughly driven.

There are exotics properly styled as 60s bikes with ultra long forks and metalflake. Even the rare Hamann-fork from the 70s found their place here.

Impressive are both, the extensive knowledge of the young bikers the passion for authentic motorbikes. The Germans definitely could learn it up from the Japanese.

The motto in Yokohama is almost everywhere: back to the roots. Many garages present beautiful vintage bikes and play with retro elements. The real jewel of the show: the antique and original bikes with the used look.

The only one stepping ahead in the development of modern art of sport bikes paradoxically are the establish custom builder. But that’s great. So there are lot of visual treats provided from antique racing machines over board tracker to hill climber or dirty tracker. All of them are of sensationally handmade perfection not to mention the great look of these bikes.

Alongside you can put the spot on very innovative design concepts: From 3-cylinder-Kawasaki to a little Flathead they are all represented.

This year you can see custom paintings of ultimate perfection, too. From handcrafted Signpainting to Pinstriping.

We are especially pleased: the million hours the customer invested in the handmade design can bee seen on these showcases. They traditionally work a lot with brush and paint. That’s the way learned tradition should looks like.

Two bikes catch the eye: Retroclassic Cycles from Indonesia and the young custom builder Shigetaka Ichii from Bullet Custom Cycle, Japan. Enter the picture gallery and you can marvel at both bikes.

These are our first pictures of the build up of the Cool Breaker Show 2010 in Yokohama. For sure: As every year in this hall are bikes that set world-class standards for custom bikes.

For all the fact that there are fewer bikes then 2009: Hot Dock (the organizer) presented a convincing compilation of technically perfect creations from Japanese world-class garages.

We can’t wait to see them all if the light will be turned on tomorrow. All Information we get will be posted here and of course the best bikes of the show.

selbst-tragt-der-motorHRD Vincent - one of the valueable bikes ever. This one of 1946 I found at Agentine Anselmo. In his area he bought everything up that has two wheels and one engine.

Most of these drove the police. Long time ago the actually drove the Brough Superior as Lawrence of Arabia. He owned 6 of these till died by an accident sitting on one of the bikes.

The HRD Vincent is the fastest street bike of the 40s. More than 200 km/h top speed and a self-carrying engine. There are a few modern bike designed that way. Especially clever: The oil is in the frame. That makes an oiltank needless.

Today you often see the HRD Vincent at races in the Hamburg Stadtpark.

Norton OHC International

Norton OHC international 500, excellent restored, VHB 600$. That was the small ad in a newspaper in Mendossa, Argentina. As the collector opens up the garage door the eyes of my partner try to out-shine the engine block of the bike. He knows: There is an upright shaft enthroned.

The engine of 1949 is completely rebuilt. If they didn’t had change the original condition with all its Patina and not using a curved can sheet the bike would have doubled the value. We made „only” 6000$ out of 600$.

At that time as today the OHC is very much desired because it is a near „relative” of the Norton Manx - the fastest racing machine of it’s time

Motoguzzi 8 Cilindri

There’s a sucker born every minute. At a bright blue summer day in 1987 it is a citizen of Mendossa, Argentina. His face got more wrinkles than the cooling fins of the Giulio Cesare Carcano 500 V8.

The bike flashed out of a sandy stack at his farmyard. Even laying it still looks very fast. It was designed before World War II and built in 1955.

Actually we have been there because of another bike. Actually. But I will pay 100$ and take „the crap” as well to sell it for 140.000 $ within the next second. A performance that managers of Hedgefonds are dreaming of but I’ve reached it - once in my lifetime.

65er Panhead

That’s me with my 65s Panhead in front of my house in L.A.. Nothing felt more beeing at home as sitting on this bike. It is the last Harley Davidson made by a family business.

An uncommon mix of Panhead and electric start with a primary cover plate made of one piece. Ok it is not convenient to remove the top cover for adjusting the clutch. That’s special at this bike. It is the only one of its kind.

The status shown at the picture does not last for a long time. I tinkered with the bike until it was really stylish.

In 1986 Uwe and his partner Alejandro visited the Chilean holiday paradise Viña del Mar. The Lloret de Mar of the Humboldt Current was also the summer resort of the Pinochet Clan at that time. This didn’t bother Uwe much. What did bother him, though, was one of the severest earthquakes of all times, which was afflicting Chile while they were there. When their hotel started dancing in the middle of the night, Uwe could stop Alejandro just in the nick of time from jumping from the balcony on the third floor. After they had made it outside, they watched how another hotel down the street slid down the hill and disappeared into the floods of Pacific Ocean. However, this kind of nature’s capers could not dissuade Uwe from his original plan - someone had told him that somebody near Viña had two old motorbikes to sell. more…

The 46er Big Twin Flathead at the Garage.

28.10.2009

In 1983, an elderly gentleman replied to a classified ad. It was the kind of ad that Uwe used to place in different Chilean papers these days: „Poor student looking for an old, defective motorbike to repair. The older the bike and the worse its shape - the better.“ The man said he owned an old, broken motorcycle, which had been dusting in his shed for ages. After the man had given a short description, Uwe knew that the trip to Bío Bío, a county south of Concepción, would be worth it.

The find was a 46 Harley Flathead UL (hard-tail frame, 73 cui, side valve engine with cast iron heads). By the saddle and the chrome parts it could easily be identified as the deluxe version. The Harley was still in its original condition and it had obviously been used as an everyday motorbike. Successful repairs and maintenance of US bikes used to be a matter of luck in Chile then, as the land is metric and old Harleys are imperial. more…

Here you can get an exciting look behind the scenes. It lasts 8 months and the result is extra-ordinary. Our partner in this project was Michael Schneider from Indian Motorcycles. He worked over the past weeks with dedication on the 46´Harley Flathead and now the heart of the newKraftrad is pefect. If you have a look on the picture gallery you will see how a buried treasure becomes a piece of gold.

20.09.2009

Here it is our update of the new Kraftrad. Our Partner in this project bike specialist Michael Schneider was overhauling the engine. The result is very impressive. You can see the open camshafts of the Harley Flathead. Of course the case is on the inside coated with the well-known red color and the cylinder are enameled - as essential for this historic motorbike.

This are the official photographs made by Horst Roesler at AMD European Championship of Custom Bike Building.

31.03.2009

Actually Arlen Ness – a legend of custom builders – travelled to Mainz especially for this weekend to let the builders and visitors know about his incredible passion. All in all there have been six competitions: Arlen Ness Pick, Jammer Old School Awards, Public Award, Best Modified Harley, Best Custom Chrome Motorcycle und European Champion in freestyle competition. Exhibitors, competitors and visitors had something in common - the amazing enthusiasm for technical refinement and straight designs. We made again some pictures as the photo of the AMD European Champion of Custom Bike Building from Big Twin Motors from Italy (left) and another Italian team from Garage 65 (plaid jackets). In the end it was our pleasure to welcome Arlen Ness. He took his time to get a detailed look at the “Kraftrad 2008”.

31.03.2009

On March 28 and 29, 2009, we travelled to the AMD European Championship of Custom Bike Building at Mainz. After a really warm welcome of the organizers of the show Axel Scherer and MOTOGRAPHER we got to know a few exhibitors and competitors on Friday. We were excited to see what happened during the next two days. At the pretty Phönix Hall me exclusively met dealers and builders. In the course of the day Uwe had a lot of interesting talks with companies that delivered parts and components to built the “Kraftrad 2008”, e.g. SJP or Motogadget. Besides all the business talks we concentrated on the intense view on more than 100 bikes of about 20 European countries (record of this event!).

Here are our favourites!

27.03.2009

Of course we’re working on our next project. Here you see the heart of the new bike. We’ll keep you posted!

Michael Schneider, Indian Motorcycles, is one of our partners in this project.

27.03.2009

This morning we started our trip to Mainz. It’s the place of the yearly AMD European Championship of Custom Bike Building on March 28 and 29, 2009. It will take place a competition with three categories - Freestyle, Modified Harley-Davidson and Custom Chrome Motorcycle - at Phönix Hall and only a few of more than hundred bikes will win. We present the Kraftrad 2008 at the freestyle competition. After registration and finished set up we had a look around.

17.03.2009

A great opportunity was a photo shooting with Jan van Endert. His long-time experience as photographer of cars in several studios was helpful in this project. The cooperation was also special by another reason. “Since I was 11 years old I’m incredibly interested in custom bikes of the 60s and 70s strongly influenced by the custom style of the Oakland area with it’s frisco styled choppers (slim wheels, small tank based of knuckles or flatties). The Kraftrad 2008 is a totally different bike with a generally slim silhouette and a beautiful mix of old influences and new custom parts”, describes Jan his own passion.

Have a look at the result!

Even if we are back in Germany from our journey to Japan the Ehinger Kraftrad Silverbike is back in Germany as well. We picked it up from the German customs and the shipping company. It’s a good feeling. We are looking back and we remember an impressive journey. The bike is already enriched with a lot of stories. We are excited to see in the near future who will call the Silverbike his own someday.

An American BBQ in the middle of Japan during wintertime. It sounded like an interesting invitation of Shige san and a great ending of the Mooneyes Show. All employees of Mooneyes Yokohama und special guests from abroad have been invited. It was our pleasure to took part and we were curious to see who’s there. At Mooneyes Café and Mooneyes Shop about 60 guests had a great evening with a lot of   interesting talks. We met e.g. Max Schaaf, Jasin Phares, Tom Foster,  John Edwards, Rico Fodrey, Cole Foster und Maurice Klok from Kieft en Klok.

These are our highlight at the Hot Rod Custom Show 2008 in Yokohama. Check this out!

09.12.2008

The “Kraftrad 2008″ called attention to various shutterbugs as well as Japanese media. On the set up day the bike was photographed by hardcore shoppers magazine. Along Dec 7th Uwe talked with editors of   Japanese magazines and was interviewed by NHK E (TV station). Ehinger Kraftrad decided to travel with the “Kraftrad 2008″ to the Mooneyes Hot Rod Custom Show to present this bike - especially designed for this show. Each Japanese we talked to has taken our decision to come to Japan as a compliment because there was the biggest German custom bike show at Bad Salzuflen at the same time.

08.12.2008

The doors of the Pacifico Yokohama opened at 9 am and the organizers welcomed like-minded people for technical discussions, amazement and a lot of passion for motorbikes and cars. 18.000 visitors have been at the show place during the Dec 7th. Many passionate riders, supporters of the Japanese custom scene as well as traders and custom bikers visited the show. More and more perfectly styled people came very polite to our booth to catch a picture of the only German and his technically ambitious and innovative “Kraftrad 2008″. Again and   again Uwe explained to fascinated Japanese visitors the bike including technical solutions.

Ehinger Kraftrad at Mooneyes Show

07.12.2008

Ehinger Kraftrad has been for the first time at Mooneyes Hot Rod Custom Show 2008 at Pacifico Yokohama. As the organizers told us we have been the one and only Germans as well as the first Germans who flew around the world to present their concept and custom bike in Japan. At set up day within an impressively short period of time Mooneyes and every exhibitor build up a show for about 300 cars and 200 bikes. Special thanks to the organizers! We got a perfect booth at the entrance of the show. In the evening of the set up day we talked a lot with other bikers and got the opportunity on stage to thank Mooneyes for the invitation to the get together as well as the hospitality. We were amazed by the technical knowledge and passion for motorbikes of the Japanese visitors. A great start of the show!

See more of the show.

Pictures of the get together.

06.12.2008

For a lot of months we prepare the show in Japan. Now we are close to the final. The bike got ready in time and we arranged everything to assure a damage-free and professional transportation to Japan. Apparel and accessories have been perfectly manufactured and already arrived. It’s only one step left: get everything ready for the shipping company to send it to the Mooneyes show in Japan!
